Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea at Sanderson London

Where do I start! If you are an afternoon tea lover this is the place to go.

So myself and my pal John were in London with work back in May. We decided that we would make the most of the free time to indulge in a bit of luxury. Well deserved luxury!

Entering the hotel lobby and peering across to the floral draped ceiling inviting you for a cocktail or three.

Offering a vast amount of cocktails, around the mood lit bar it is very much a warming and welcoming atmosphere.

John went for a classic mojito whilst I opted for a bespoke cocktail made by the mixologist behind the bar, working with some of my favourite alcohol. Amazing service.

A lovely waitress greeted us at the bar to let us know our table was ready, and takes us through to what I can only describe as what I would love as a wedding venue. A hint of a botanical garden with a twist. The sound of the water features in the background filling the garden with a harmoneous sound. Just beautiful.

I can’t tell you how excited I was about coming here and experiencing ‘mad hatters afternoon tea’.

Tea Time….

Once sat at our table the waitress brought over a deck of cards. Not your usual deck though. This was a deck of flavoured tea cards to match the aromatic ingredients in the miniature potion bottles. The trick was smell the ingredients and see what your mind and body want from the tea. Amazing concept.

We both went for the ‘Cheshire Cat’. A blend of marmalade orange oolong infused with chocolate and hugging orange.

The only word I have is…..wow!

What a beautiful way to choose your tea.

Ready for the cake stand to arrive

Usually when you go for afternoon tea your greeted with a simple elegant sandwhich, savoury choice, trio of mini deserts and a scone. To say I was flabbergasted was an understatement.

The cake stand appears at the table dressing itself as a vibrant inviting piece of artwork and not just food.

So what’s on the menu?

From ‘smoked salmon scotch quails egg with cream cheese’ to ‘queen of hearts rose and strawberry jammy dodgers’, the menu is spectacular.

For those Alice in Wonderland fans, the ‘drink me potion’ was a cinnamon, apple and peach yoghurt type drink. Not my favourite but John really enjoyed these. It wasn’t the taste for me it’s more a food texture thing. I loved the mushroom marshmallows. Just dreamy soft in the middle mallow dusted with icing sugar.

Finishing the tea off with a freshly baked warm scone, cream and Jam of course.

This experience is one that can be shared with friends, family or a loved one. The atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing. The service is exceptional, and the uniqueness of the afternoon tea itself is nothing like I have ever had before.

At ยฃ48 pp it’s certainly not just your average afternoon tea. But you cannot put a price on the experience.

I would highly recommend!

Location is fantastic as it is not to far from Oxford street, and after all of that shopping I know you’ll be there to do, it’ll be earned.

I hope you enjoyed tea time. Get the train booked and a table booked, you won’t regret it!

**tip they often post offers for a reduced price plus a free cocktail, check out their website.
